There are five main channels in Britain: two national commercial-free BBC channels and the commercial ITV1 (Channel 3), Channel 4 and Channel 5 services. In Wales, S4C broadcasts programs on the fourth channel, usually in Welsh. They all offer a mixture of drama, light entertainment, films, sport, educational, children's and religious programs, news and current affairs, and documentaries.

Like in New Zealand, most kids have access to broadcast as well as cable television channels. In the U.K., these kids' channels include Fox Kids, Trouble TV, CBBC, and Nick Jr. Kids also have their own news programme called Newsround.

The TweeniesBritain's main channels also carry a number of American programs, aimed at both adults and children, including Friends, ER as well as Sabrina the Teenage Witch, The Simpsons and The Fresh Prince of Bel Air.

In Britain we also see some programmes from New Zealand, the most famous one you will have heard of is Shortland Street. It was on television for ten years but is not shown any more.
